A.D.D.

(Another.Damn.Distraction)

A.D.D.: a developmental disorder that is marked especially by persistent symptoms of inattention (such as feeling distracted, forgetful, or disorganized) or by symptoms of hyperactivity and impulsivity (such as fidgeting, speaking out of turn, or restlessness) or by symptoms of all three and that is not caused by any serious underlying physical or mental disorder

In today’s world, it is impossible to allow our minds to feel at ease. We have become addicted to overwhelming ourselves with an abundance of daily task, chores and needless activities that would have once before been dispersed throughout an entire week. This notion that we need to accomplish hundreds of tasks in such a short stint of time has essentially caused a self-induced disorder called Attention Deficit Disorder. While we are sitting at work trying to concentrate on the task-at-hand, we are sidetracked by what is next on our daily list of nonsense. Thus, causing us to forget what is most important at that given time. To make matters worse, we have introduced “Another Damn Distraction,” called technology. Now, instead of completing any of our goals, we are constantly checking our phones for text, notification, emails, likes, retweets, etc. Then, once we realized that we have been distracted by our phones for nearly an hour we find that we are so far behind in our work that we become immersed in stress trying to catch up. All so that we can get to the next item on our daily to-do list. We have become forgetful, restlessness, stressed and out of place.

In order for us as a society to live healthy lives, we must learn how to take a step back. It is important for our health to monitor our workload. Not to stack fifty tasks into one day, but to stretch it out through a period of time. To separate from cellular engagement is equally important. If we can reduce the number of beeps, buzzes, and rings coming from our phones, maybe we can reduce the number of distractions in our lives. Ultimately leading to a more productive, stress-free lifestyle.
